What?
What is a Tibet
Travel Permit? In short, Tibet Travel Permit, also known as TTP, is
a permit that some people have to possess when travelling to Tibet.
Given the discretion to the particularity of Tibetan people’s tradition, its cultural
relics, and ecology environment,
also due to its traffic condition, service facility and capacity, some specific
group of people cannot travel in Tibet without the TTP.
Who?
Speaking of the
specific group, who on earth need the Tibet Travel Permit?
1. He who doesn’t have Chinese ID card—Taiwanese
2. He who doesn’t have Chinese Passport—foreigners, Chinese living
overseas
Ps. 1.
Citizens from Hong Kong and Macao can travel in Tibet as long as they have
passports issued by HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) or MSAR
(Macao Special Administrative Region), or Travel Permits for residents of Hong
Kong and Macao to Chinese mailand.
2. Attention! Foreigner, who is journalist
or diplomat cannot travel to Tibet as a traveller.
How?
If you do belong
to this peculiar group, all you have to do is hand the copy of your passport
and visa to the travel agency, to
which you have to provide some personal information, things like name,
nationality, age, gender, phone number, occupation and passport number, and
details of this Tibetan trip, the intention and your itinerary etc..
The travel
agency will file your documents to Tibetan Tourism Administration or its local
offices to apply your TTP. After the approval, you will get a confirmation
letter, by which you can buy train ticket, bus ticket or plane ticket to Tibet.
Attention!
In accordance
with the rules issued by National Tourism Administration, anyone who fits the regulations above, cannot
travel alone. You have to join a tour group and travel in groups.

you only travel in Lhasa, Shigatse and Namsto, only 1 TTP will do.

you also want to go Nyingchi and Mount
Everest, except from the TTP, you have to get a travel document.
3.
